Inspired by a layering of transport networks…

At Tebay Services Hotel we love celebrating our local landscape and produce, which is why we recently renovated 14 of our bedrooms using the best of local Cumbrian and British craftsmanship. Last week we completed the makeover of our Crafted rooms with a selection of screen prints designed and made just for us by Northern artist James Bywood.

To inspire his work, James has spent time exploring the Lune Valley and our surrounding fells.

“It’s really interesting to see how travel networks passing through the area have been added over time, creating a layering of river, road, bridges and railway.

Starting with the natural course of the River Lune, you then have early single track roads connecting isolated farm communities, over which increasingly large roads have been placed, intersecting existing routes. This scaling-up culminates in the M6 heading north/south through the dramatic gorge.”

If you love the print in your room and want to take one home, we even have a selection available to purchase. Simply speak with a member of our team for a viewing of the pieces.
