Our very own notebooks made by James Cropper, Cumbria
James Cropper create some of the world’s most distinctive and technically advanced paper products, using materials from cotton and wood to carbon fibre. Our Buyer, Tracey, chose to work on our range of notebooks with James Cropper because of their expertise and commitment to craft, quality and sustainability. They have been creating beautiful, innovative paper at their historic mill in Burneside, Cumbria, for nearly two centuries. From the colour mixing process to the creation of individual textures, James Copper continue to surprise with their unique and globally renowned papers. We were delighted to work with them on our range of notebooks that come in A5, tall and skinny and a mini pack of three, in classic colours.
We have chosen a range of beautiful cards from Portico Designs, based in Bath, to go with our stationery. Established 25 years ago, they are independent publishers of quality design-led stationary, gifts, calendars and greetings cards. We particularly like these Folklore Bear boxed note-cards. They make unique ‘thank you’ cards.
The history of Derwent pencils and stationery is a true Cumbrian success story! Following the discovery of graphite in the Lake District in the 1500s, pencil making gradually became a thriving cottage industry in the area. In 1832 the company made their first pencil in their newly opened Keswick factory and produced their first coloured pencil in 1838. The pencil factory remains standing to this day as a museum and Derwent are recognised as professional standard quality products.
