Following the original model of Tebay Services, Cairn Lodge Services prides itself on serving good, homemade food and selling quality produce in the Farmshop. The re-development, currently taking place at Cairn Lodge Services, aims to improve the layout of the services and expand the offer already available by enlarging the Farmshop, improving the service areas and installing facilities such as family rooms and ‘changing places’ in the toilets.
Designer and Project Manager, Jane Sanderson, has been responsible for managing the work. Jane has been part of our family, working at Tebay Services in the Kitchen serving our tasty treats, from the age of 15. After graduating from university, Jane returned. Jane’s experience within the Westmorland Family helped her to produce beautiful designs that were most importantly functional for the busy and growing needs of the business.
Some initial designs by Jane
With the key aims of the re-development at Cairn Lodge established, Jane began to look at ways of extending the building to offer the space needed with the Westmorland Family team. However, they instead developed a plan to re-purpose unused space within the building, borrowing space from the foyer. Once the designs were decided, it was time to recruit the Edinburgh-based architects and local Glasgow-based contractors to bring the designs to life. The layout of the building has changed extensively. By creating a straight line between the front and back door, the building will be much easier to navigate to both the Kitchen and Farmshop.
Jane’s role also involves designing and then sourcing the finishes of the project from paint colours to flooring. Jane produced various palettes to create a cohesive, finished look. Her previous work at all our other businesses ensures that some design elements carry through from all the Westmorland Family sites to give a distinctive Westmorland feel to each building.
Jane explained, “We want to ensure visitors feel like they’re in a Westmorland Family business when they walk through the door but we don’t want each building to be a cookie cutter copy. It has always been important that each business feels like it belongs to the unique landscape it’s in.”
Jane continues, “It’s a great project to be involved in. It’s nice to see all the team at Cairn Lodge Services excited about the development and the impact it will have on site. We’re completely re-vamping the whole site and it’s going to have real wow factor!”
Donna Hood, Cairn Lodge Services Operations Manager, added, “We’re really excited about all the work that has been taking place this year. I’m certain that we’ll continue to expand and improve on the years of success we’ve made so far at Cairn Lodge Services.”
The re-development has been a big team effort and our thanks go out to all those involved in the build and all our Cairn Lodge colleagues. We aim to complete the first part of the work including a brand new Farmshop by early April. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!
