The Daniels Bros create handmade toys and completely unique items from reclaimed timber that they salvage from around their native Sheffield. Their unique items are often inspired by traditional toys of the past. We love this retro wooden Ping Pong Crossbow, available now in our Farmshops.
We spoke to Jono Daniels to find out more.
How did you start Daniels Bros?
We started Daniels Bros after Ben got a lathe one year for Christmas. After plenty of practice and saturating family and friends with woodwork we decided to team up and take our experiments to a much wider audience.
Where did your passion for woodworking begin?
We have always worked together making things. Our Dad is a builder and we worked with him, not always enthusiastically, during the school holidays! We picked up many skills from our dad, but perhaps the most important thing our parents gave us was encouragement to pursue what we were interested in.
Tell us about your workshop?
Our workshop is located in the community owned historic Portland Works, the first place in the world to make stainless steel. It is a great place to work with such a rich history and it is great to know we are carrying on the making and crafting history which Sheffield is renowned for.
What inspires your designs?
We try and make things that people will find fun. If we can make people smile, then we count that as a successful product.
What do we think about stocking Westmorland Family?
It very exciting to be supplying Westmorland Family Farmshops, people we know all over the U.K love the service stations and will go out of their way to stop at them. It is very exciting to see our products in such a highly valued retailer.
