Our Poppy Appeal 2018

Community sits at the very heart of Westmorland. We want to invest in our communities for future generations. We look to work with organisations and projects that are geographically local to us and our colleagues’ communities. Over the last 46 years we have been able to support local organisations and projects through our community partnerships, foyer and till collections, our Community Fund and our 5p bag charge.

For many years we’ve supported the Tebay branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The branch has collected an amazing £166,154 at our business since 1980.

2018 was a particularly special year for the charity as it marked 100 years since the Armistice was signed in November 1918, bringing an end to the First World War. The charity continue to do vital work including offering financial aid in an urgent crisis, helping homeless ex-Service people get back on their feet, advising on compensation claims, offering careers advice for those looking to make a fresh start after leaving the Forces, arranging home or hospital visits and much more to all those in need within the Armed Forces community.

The Royal British Legion raise funds using the Poppy Appeal but they also use the annual campaign to raise awareness, ensuring that the people of the United Kingdom remember all those who have lost their lives on active service and honour their sacrifice and the contribution of their families.

“Manned collections and collection boxes at tills are an essential component of our continued success. All monies collected go to the Poppy Appeal and are later distributed to counties to meet identified need. Once again, I must express my deepest gratitude to Westmorland for its continued support to the Poppy Appeal.”
Graham Cave, Tebay Branch Chairman & Honorary Poppy Appeal Organiser

In November 2018 volunteers raised a record £16,624.10 for the 2018 Poppy Appeal at Tebay Services and J.38.

Every penny you drop into collection boxes makes a huge difference to the lives of those in our communities, enabling us to continue to support the vital work of our partners. This could not be done without the generosity of you, our customers and the hard work of our colleagues. Thank you for your ongoing support.
